Internet-less

In my new home I have decided to take a step back from this technologically advanced, fast moving world, and have it be a place of quiet and peace (as much is possible with a 3-year-old!). Therefore I have no internet, no cable, no microwave, not much of anything.
So how do we spend our days you ask? Well, we're not home much, but when we are we play cars and trains, watch movies, read books, spend time growing our imaginations! Having no microwave has been wonderful! It forces me to be intentional when cooking meals. If you have to cook why not go ahead and cook something good!
As a consequence of my internet-less home, it is likely that this blog will be updated even less than usual. But I do receive all your updates to my phone, so I will continue to read what everyone else's lives are up to!

I'm Moving!

The Lord is provider! An opportunity for me to move fell into my lap and it was too good to say no to! Last month a friend of mine emailed me stating that someone she knows is moving out of the Village and wanting to sell her home. Well the Village is a trailer park for families that attend CIU. It is actually where I lived and grew up when my dad went to seminary here almost 20 years ago.
Therefore I am now a owner of my very own trailer! It is probably about 2x the space of our little apartment and I'm saving a lot of money... in the long run anyways :)
What I'm most excited about?
- My own bedroom!
- Room to entertain
- A dining room table
- A yard
- A garden
- Room for chickens!
- Tons of kids around for Conner to play with!

And it's a learning experience. So far I have learned how to close on a house... kind of an abbreviated and easy way I imagine. I've learned how to buy new carpet, and get out of a lease, and I'm currently researching how to create an urban farm (aka garden).
That's what my life has been up to lately!

Coffee

I've haven't had a cup of coffee in two weeks. The first 3 days was the caffeine detox process that's never fun. Now though, I don't even feel like I need caffeine at all to get through my day.
However, more than just the caffeine, I miss the coffee. The smell, the taste, the warmness, the comfort. So come next week maybe I'll buy a bag of decaf and drink coffee just for the coffee. Or maybe I won't and just start drinking good ole coffee again. But one thing is for certain: coffee is like a mini little holiday in your day. It's the perfect compliment to a sunrise, a good book, a long paper, a meaningful conversation.
Maybe one day when I'm a certified counselor I'll offer coffee in my office. My technique to get people to open up!
Coffee is like community in a cup! and you can quote me on that.

Easter

I love Easter! The weather is warm, the clothes are fun, and the people are passionate about their Savior. It's always exciting to remember the Resurrection in a special way!

And what a great way to share the gospel, there's a whole holiday dedicated to it! Happy Easter Everyone!

Balance

I think I have finally found the point of nice, healthy balance! I have about 1 big paper or project due each week. Therefore, I get all the other little stuff done quickly and work on the big thing for the rest of the week. Each week I spend time with friends, whether it's watching a movie or going to get froyo. Conner and I have a fun day about once a week in which I either take him to the zoo or to Chick-fil-a. Church on Sunday and Bible study on Wednesday gives me an opportunity to grow in a Christian community. I get 8 hours of sleep each night! Watch TV occasionally, usually on the internet. And still have time to relax a little on my own! It feels good to have a set routine in which I have allotted time for all the things that are important in my life.
Two weekends ago my parents took Conner to the beach and gave me 3 days to myself! It wasn't too productive school wise, but I got to spend lots of time hanging out with friends. It felt like I was in college again, going out whenever I wanted, staying out late, and meeting new people. I tried something new: paddle-boarding. It was kind of fun. Definitely would be more fun if someone dropped me off at the top of the river and picked me up down stream, paddling up stream was quite a workout!

Last weekend I went home to Greenville where Conner and I went to the Ashby Easter egg hunt. Conner had lots of fun getting to see his grandma and grandpa and hanging out with his cousins.

Then the weekend ended with me going to Carowinds! I hadn't ridden a roller coaster in about 5 years, and the first one we hopped on was the Intimidator, which is exactly that! HUGE! But we had so much fun! I love the intense fear followed by exhilaration of a roller coaster, and then getting off with a surge of adrenaline and wanting to hop right back on again. It was a beautiful day and the crowd was small, so we had lots of fun!

That's what I've been up too lately... Life is good!

The Cure

With this life that I lead sickness is not much of an option. Therefore when it hits me, like today, I have found a ritual that can help ease the sore throat and pounding head.

1. Drop the kid off at the babysitters!
2. Skip class
3. Take a hot hot steamy shower
4. Make a gigantic cup of hot tea sweetened with extra honey
5. Turn on Pandora's Alison Krauss station
6.Curl up under a big warm blanket and read a book

Not only am I getting some reading done for school, but I'm also getting to enjoy some nice and quiet alone time!
